Sustainable urban drainage systems (short SUDS) is an approach by TRUST that has been
applied to a city outside the project for the first time. This case study uses the
methodology to achieve flood mitigation at the city of Sandnes, located south of
Stavanger in Norway with a total number of 70.000 inhabitants. The city faces
flooding problems. Flooding is a hazard for people and infrastructure and occurs
regularly. The sewer system of Sandnes fails in case of heavy rain events. One
solution to obtain flood mitigation is the realization of on-site measures like SUDS,
which has been developed under TRUST. The technical requirements for those source
control measures and the amount of applicable measures were investigated. Open access repository:
