The School of Life Sciences (HLS) of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) is located in the centre of the tri-national Basel area of Switzerland, France and Germany. Currently, around 80 scientists work on approximately 120 projects. The research and development activities of HLS encompass development of new products and devices as well as the optimisation of production processes in terms of material and energy saving up to life cycle and risk assessment. The core activities of the involved Institute for Ecopreneurship cover environmental (bio-)technologies, resources management and eco-toxicology. A particular focus is on water treatment technologies including membrane applications, classical and advanced adsorption techniques and biologically enhanced systems.
