The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) encompasses 7 faculties and 53 departments. NTNU is currently involved as partner or coordinator in more than 70 projects funded by the Framework Programme for Research and more than 40 projects funded by other EC programmes. The Department of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering (IVM) is part of the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology (IVT) at NTNU. Research activity is structured within three groups; hydraulic engineering, water and wastewater engineering, and industrial ecology. An internationally appointed expert committee has recently undertaken an evaluation of the research groups at the IVT faculty, where the water and wastewater engineering group received a ranking of very good on the three criteria: 1. Scientific quality and productivity, 2. Relevance and impact, and 3. Strategy, organization and research cooperation.
