ALMA MATER STUDIORUM-UNIVERSITA DI BOLOGNA
The University of Bologna, Alma Mater Studiorum, was founded in 1088 and is considered to be the oldest university in Western Europe. It accounts for 100,000 enrolled students, 23 faculties, 69 departments, 3,000 academics and 3,000 administrative staff. The Department of Civil Engineering (DISTART) is part of the Faculty of Engineering at UNIBO, with a staff of 65 tenured professors and researchers, 15 technicians, 13 administrative staff, 17 research associates and 48 PhD candidates. Research activity is structured within several groups: water engineering (hydraulics, hydrology, hydraulic construction, coastal studies), sanitary engineering, transportation and road engineering, geomatics, geotechnics, structural mechanics and structural engineering.
